A special shoutout to our extraordinary Vineyard Manager, Katrina Barry, as we kick off Vintage #V20 this week! Kat has been working at Brokenwood since the age of 12! Her father Keith Barry (KB) was Brokenwood’s Vineyard Manager for 23 years, with Kat working alongside him for 18 consecutive vintages. One of our single block wines from our Graveyard Vineyard is named after Kat. It was the last block of chardonnay pulled out and replanted with shiraz using cuttings from the 1968 blocks. Whilst it has been a challenging harvest, it has been a reminder of the seasonality of viticulture and our dependence on the weather. Brokenwood’s ‘All the Right Regions, for all the Right Reasons’ has been tested this year, but it will once again hold us in good stead to weather the tough seasons. 今年充满挑战的采收提醒了我们葡萄种植依然依赖气候状况。我们“因地制宜”的策略经受住了考验。
We have completed our Hunter Valley harvest with the last of our Semillon fermenting in tank and a small amount of Hunter Valley Shiraz pressed off on Friday. Juice quality is excellent, though yields are down by at least 40%. This yield reduction is due to the prevailing dry conditions that have impacted all of our vineyards. 猎人谷采收结束！今年产量虽然由于长期干旱降低了40%，但葡萄汁质量上乘。
We had our morning staff pick yesterday and saw our last fruit picked, tipped and crushed from our Graveyard Vineyard...well done to our vineyard and winery crew!
